We are pleased to
announce that there will be two opportunities for students to apply to the
major in Health Science before Spring 2016 classes begin.
Early Admission to Health Science
Application will open on
September 30, 2015
Application period closes
on October 6, 2015 at midnight
Students will be notified
of the decision by October 9, 2015 at 5pm
Regular Admission to Health Science
Application will open on
December 22, 2015*
Application period closes
on January 10,2016 at midnight
Students will be notified
of the decision by January 15, 2016 at 5pm
* In order to report Fall
2015 grades, students must fill out the online SOTES for Fall classes so that
they are able to see their grades in this timeframe.
Application Process
To apply,
students will need to fill out an application form through the Health Science
advising blog (http://hsadvising.blogspot.com/). This form will ask you to report your GPA and
your units earned. If you have any special circumstances you would like us to
consider in your application, you can include that statement on the form. In
addition to the form, we will have students fill out a change of major form so
that we can process your paperwork right away should you be admitted to the
program.
Criteria for Admission to Health Science
In order to apply, you
must have completed at least 12 units of college coursework (at SJSU or another
college). Students will be admitted based on their SJSU GPA or their All
College GPA (whichever favors the applicant).
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I apply early?
If you apply early to HS,
you will know whether you have been admitted to the major by the time
enrollment opens for Spring classes. In addition, if you are admitted, you will
be able to add classes yourself rather than waiting for a permission code from
the department as many classes are only available to majors and minors.
Why should I wait to apply?
Students who think that
their GPA will improve if they wait for Fall 2015 grades to post might decide
to wait to apply to Health Science at the regular admission time. However, if
you apply early and are not accepted but your fall grades improve your GPA, you
are welcome to apply again in the regular admission period.
